Mine came in the mail today:

Oh happy day! I just received the “Looney Tunes Golden Collection” volumes 1 and 2 in the mail today. My weekend plans are set!
Well, not really. Only on days like this:
So far, it looks like about two feet of snow (I didn’t get out a tape measure and measure it, so shoot me!) and it’s still coming down. Better yet, it’s supposed to be cold all week, with more snow intermittently through the week. I can hardly contain my joy. *sigh*
And no, I don’t have a snow blower, those trenches were dug out the old fashioned way, with a snow shovel.
I love wireless networks. As a telecommuter, it’s very nice to work not just from home, but from Starbucks, Panera or anywhere else I can get a WiFi connection. It’s fun to be able to watch the people and besides, it’s typically warmer than at home (fuel oil is expensive this winter!).
It’s so nice to be finally home again. As nice as the weather was in Arizona through December, it’s good to be back in my own house and bed. The drive back from Phoenix to Boston was uneventful, with good weather along the way. I averaged roughly 600 miles a day and made the trip in 4 days. I could have done it in 3 or even 2 days, but I decided there was no good reason to push myself like that.
A couple of observations: 1) A soft top jeep is very LOUD on the highway, particularly when the crosswinds are up, 2) turning the stereo up doesn’t really solve the problem and 3) it’s expensive to drive cross-country when the vehicle only averages 15 mpg. It definitely would have cost less to fly out, but then I couldn’t have gone four-wheeling and I would potentially have had to rent a vehicle while there, negating the cost savings.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight!
I took my nephew out late last night to see the Geminid meteor shower. We drove out north of Phoenix to the west side of Lake Pleasant where the hills block out much of the Phoenix sky glow. In retrospect, it would have been better to go out past Apache Junction or to the Four Peaks area, as the Geminids came in mostly from the east. In any case, we were out from about 11:00 pm to 12:30 am or so. The count wasn’t as high as I’d hoped, but we did count about 30 meteors in the hour and a half we were out, including two or three that were quite spectacular. I wasn’t able to figure out how to take a good long exposure picture with the camera, so didn’t get any pictures. It was fun and not nearly as cold as I had feared it would be, even with the top down on the jeep.
Except I would never insult someone’s paperbacks, I’ve too many myself to do that.
You speak eloquently and have seemingly read every book ever published. You are a fountain of endless (sometimes useless) knowledge, and never fail to impress at a party.
What people love: You can answer almost any question people ask, and have thus been nicknamed Jeeves.
What people hate: You constantly correct their
grammar and insult their paperbacks.
