Review: Firewheel rubber band gun

Dan’s Data reviewed the Firewheel Rubberband Gun back in December, 2004. I saw the review and decided that I really needed a multishot rubber band gun.

Mine came in the mail today:

Firewheel Rubberband Gun

This is a nice piece of equipment. It feels fairly solid (well, except maybe the folding shoulder stock) and has a lifetime warranty. It does take a little bit to get the hang of loading it, but the instructions are pretty good if you actually follow them. I had some trouble at first, then I actually read the instructions and they made sense.

The trigger is a bit funky. Instead of pulling back on the trigger, you push forward, releasing a ratchet on the spiral wheel that holds the bands. By pressing in slightly, only one notch ratchets by and you fire a single shot. A bit harder and multiple notches release. Even harder and all the bands let go basically at once. It’s pretty cool and works amazingly well in practice. It’s even reasonably accurate, the bands actually go in roughly the same direction as you fire them.

All in all, a fun toy and highly recommended, especially for a mere $25.70 including shipping.

  1. Well, I’ve already taken mine into the office. I’m afraid I may have created a monster 🙂 Next time I’m in (I telecommute mostl), they may all be armed. I’m actually buying a bunch as birthday presents for the other males in the family. It is a lot of fun to play with, and not too bad to load when you get the hang of it.

  2. Remember several years back when the guns came out that shot out rubber discs? What a fun stress reducer.. well, if fired upon – take aim, duck, and run!!!
