Geminid Meteor Shower

I took my nephew out late last night to see the Geminid meteor shower. We drove out north of Phoenix to the west side of Lake Pleasant where the hills block out much of the Phoenix sky glow. In retrospect, it would have been better to go out past Apache Junction or to the Four Peaks area, as the Geminids came in mostly from the east. In any case, we were out from about 11:00 pm to 12:30 am or so. The count wasn’t as high as I’d hoped, but we did count about 30 meteors in the hour and a half we were out, including two or three that were quite spectacular. I wasn’t able to figure out how to take a good long exposure picture with the camera, so didn’t get any pictures. It was fun and not nearly as cold as I had feared it would be, even with the top down on the jeep.
